What happens at Butterfest, butter stay at Butterfest

Sparta Wisconsin is the Bicycling Capital of America and home to the "Big" Ben Bikin', a 32-ft. fiberglass structure sitting on the corner of Water and Highway 16 in Sparta. Did you know… always the second weekend in June, Sparta hosts the annual Butterfest? How did Butterfest get it's name? In 1984 the festival was called Sparta Fest Days. In 1985 it was changed to Sparta Butter Festival as Sparta was well known for it's State Award Winning Butter Makers who worked at the local milk plant. A few years later it was changed to Sparta Butter Celebration and in 1992 it was changed to Sparta Butterfest.

Probably one of the BIGGEST draws at Sparta Butterfest is the cow milking contest! On Saturday June 13 th, I tried my hand at milking a cow for the first time in my life…what an experience! Thanks to some great advice, the farm girl at heart attitude, and a wonderful team...I came home as a 1 st Place Celebrity Team cow milking contest winner! A "berry" special thanks to my team: Bethany LaDue, Danielle Peterson, and George Martin! After the day was over, it had me thinking…cranberries really do go good with butter! Enjoy a recipe from the Queen!
