On May 19, we attended the 2012 Alice in Dairyland Event, in Platteville, WI. There were five finalists, who all did a great job promoting their industries. Rochelle Ripp was crowned the 2012 Alice and we were lucky to be on of the first people to get our picture taken with her. (On a side note, we were very excited to see a picture of us at the 2011 Festival with Katie Wirkus, the 2011 Alice in her farewell slideshow.) The very next day, May 20, we headed to Westby, WI, for their annual Syttende Mai Parade. It was a windy, warm day and the rain that was in the forecast held out, and had a blast waving to all the little kids. We enjoyed their royalty tea a lot, the food was great and we had a group picture taken with all the other royalty too.
On May 28, we attended two Memorial Day Events. The first took place at the Warren Mills Cemetery and we handed out brochures and placed the wreath during the ceremony. Afterwards we at a delicious chicken dinner at the Warrens Lions Log Building. From there we traveled to Pine Grove Cemetery in Mather, WI for their ceremony, where we each read a poem. It was truly special to be part of two events that honored our Veterans.
On June 2, we were really busy. First thing in that morning we attended the Monroe County Dairy Breakfast, near Cashton, WI. We served 1,000 cups of cranberry juice to the visitors, enjoyed a great breakfast, walked around visiting with the other booths and of course took some time to play with all the cute little animals. We even had an interview with Cow97 radio station. We left the breakfast and headed straight to West Salem, WI, for their June Dairy Days Parade. It was a beautiful day and we used our parasols for the very first time. It was a great parade and we had fun at their event. We ended the evening by attending the Miss Sparta Pageant. It was a fun event to watch. Their were five contestants competing in their fairy tale themed event. Molly Sullivan was crowned 2012 Miss Sparta, Rebecca Guldenaar won 1st Attendant and Autumn Freeman won 2nd Attendant. After the pageant we attended a reception in their honor at The Greens.
June 6, Chelsie and Courtney attended the Sparta Butterfest Royalty Italian Dinner in the park. We were served a spaghetti dinner and we visited with the newly crowned royalty. After dinner we sat and listened to the band Studebaker perform.
We attended the Monroe County Relay For Life on June 8. We sold raffle tickets and passed out programs. We enjoyed watching the opening ceremony and listening as June Potter, Honorary Chair, shared her experiences with Cancer. We walked the track and visited with people along the way. It was a nice event and we were grateful to have been part of such a worthwhile cause.
On June 10, we attended the Sparta Butterfest Parade. Before the parade started we attended their Royalty Tea. It was fun visiting with all the other visiting royalty and we got our picture taken by the Ben Bikin' statue in Sparta, WI. The parade was fun and we had a great time waving to all of the visitors.
That is it for now, but we will be back with more experiences to share next month. If you want to see a full array of our latest pictures visit our Facebook page or the Festival's website. www.cranfest.com
