Wisconsin Farm Technology Days
It was early rising as the Cranberry Royalty along with Jim Van Wychen, Henry Knoepker, and the Queen's Dad, Dave, traveled to Waterloo, WI. Dodge County was the host for the 2009 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days at the Crave Brothers Farm.
Whether it's the state-of-the-art dairy equipped with two anaerobic manure digesters or Crave Brothers Farmstead cheese factory- it had something special to offer everyone. We had the opportunity to see the latest in technology, enjoy hands-on activities, view demonstrations, and learn about the what makes America's Dairyland so strong.
Even light rain showers in the morning didn't stop us from exploring and learning. We watched Alice in Dairyland, Cheryl O'Brien, give two presentations throughout the day. We talked with Wisconsin's Honey Queen, Amy Roden, then toured the Crave Brothers Farm and indulged in a Crave Burger at lunch. The afternoon was spent walking and visiting the many vendors learning about everything from my new Biodiesel vehicle to soil management. It was like Cranfest farm style.
There were an estimated 80,000 people who attended. One thing I personally learned from the day: In many ways dairy farming is a lot like growing cranberries. It takes hard work, dedication, and team work. I walked away with a new found respect for dairy farmers and a tall glass of milk!
